A Neuroscientific Guide to Clarity, Intention, and Living With Purpose

I first encountered Dr. Tara Swart through a Diary of a CEO podcast interview, and what struck me wasn’t just her presence—but her story, her clarity, her depth, and her methodology. After watching that interview, and then a few more podcasts with her, I knew I wanted to read her book.
When I finally picked up The Source, I found it to be a really thoughtful, practical, and science-based guide. It’s less about mysticism in the abstract, and more about how our brains actually work—and how we can use that understanding to bring clarity, intention, and meaningful change into our lives.
What Dr. Swart does so well is take conversations that often live in the world of spirituality or “manifestation” and explain them through neuroscience and psychology. She starts by walking us through how the brain functions—how thoughts form, how neural pathways get created, and how our brain is literally the source of how we perceive and respond to reality. Then, step by step, she shows how our brain supports or inhibits the life we’re trying to create.
It’s not about magical thinking. It’s about understanding your own brain as a tool for clarity and actual change. I loved this because it bridges two worlds I care about: science and lived experience, especially how intentional focus actually impacts our habits and outcomes.
One of my favorite parts of the book is the way she brings all of this into practical application — specifically her detailed guidance on creating a vision board that’s rooted in how the brain responds to imagery, emotion, and intention. It was the perfect read for this time of year, but honestly — a vision board makes sense anytime you want to clarify goals and activate them with your nervous system.
This book didn’t just give me ideas — it gave me a framework for thinking about intention, goals, identity, and action in a real-world way that feels grounded, doable, and science-aligned.
